On 04/12/2026, Christiansburg Police Department officers responded around 7:39 p.m. to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of Miller Street SE. Officers attempted to contact the man inside the home, who displayed a handgun, prompting officers to back away and establish a perimeter. Officers attempted to negotiate with him as he exited and re-entered the residence. During a second exit, he moved toward officers while holding the gun. Officers deployed less-lethal beanbag rounds in an attempt to take him into custody. The man then drew his gun, and officers opened fire, striking him. He died following the shooting. The Virginia State Police is conducting the investigation.
