On 04/15/2026, Goldsboro Police Department officers responded to a reported attempted burglary at a residence on Shelley Drive. When officers arrived, Alexander Jones fired at officers from inside the home. Officers established a perimeter and requested additional units. The situation escalated into a standoff, and the residence caught fire during the incident. While officers maintained the perimeter, a gunshot was heard from inside the home. After the fire was brought under control, Jones was found dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers were struck during the exchange.
