OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/15/2026, Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies went to a residence in the 900 block of County Road 188 to serve an arrest warrant. Deputies entered the home and encountered Wilder Cobon Gomez inside. During the encounter, Gomez shot a deputy in the arm. Deputies opened fire, striking him. He died following the shooting. The deputy was transported to a hospital and is expected to recover. A child was present inside the home during the incident. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
