On 04/16/2026, officers responded to a report of a woman who said her ex-husband had fired multiple gunshots at her at a residence in the 4800 block of Hope Road in Butte. The woman left the home and reported the incident. Officers arrived and located the man in an attached garage holding a shotgun. During the encounter, he raised the shotgun toward an officer. Officers fired their weapons, striking him multiple times. He died following the shooting. The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
