On 04/18/2026, deputies with the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations and due to the driver having an outstanding warrant. The driver did not stop, and police chased the vehicle at low speed through northern Dubuque County. Deputies deployed stop sticks near Tollgate Road and Ridge Road, bringing the vehicle to a stop. When deputies approached the vehicle, they found Scott M. Auderer with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies and emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead.
