OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/18/2026, East Haven Police Department officers responded to a McDonald’s on Main Street after staff reported two women who appeared impaired or unresponsive. Officers spoke with the women, who initially gave false identifying information. Police identified Margaret Walker and took her into custody on an outstanding warrant.

On 04/19/2026, police transported Walker to court for arraignment. While at court, she reported a medical issue. Officers transported her to Yale New Haven Hospital for evaluation. After treatment, the hospital discharged her and police returned her to custody at the East Haven Police Department.

Later that evening, while being held in a holding cell, Walker experienced a medical emergency. Police requested emergency medical assistance. She was pronounced dead after the medical event.

The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad, is investigating the death. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause of death.
