On 04/22/2026, Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted a traffic stop on U.S. 40 in Clayton after identifying a vehicle connected to an armed robbery at a Chase Bank in Plainfield the previous day. Dustin R. Horwoth did not comply with the stop and fled. Police chased the vehicle. Horwoth then exited the vehicle and ran on foot while carrying a firearm. Deputies pursued him on foot. During the encounter, deputies opened fire, striking him. Horwoth was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Reporting states he was armed during the pursuit.
