On 04/22/2026, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call about teens drinking at a gravel pit on County Road 36. Deputies arrived and observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Deputies activated emergency lights to initiate a stop. The driver accelerated away after deputies activated their lights. Deputies reported they did not pursue and lost sight of the vehicle shortly after. Deputies later located the vehicle after it crashed on County Road 36. Braxton Canterberry died from injuries sustained in the crash as a passenger. Reporting states the vehicle fled immediately after deputies activated emergency lights.
