On 04/23/2026, an Adairsville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at a MAPCO gas station on Joe Frank Harris Parkway NW. During the stop, Saeed Ahmed Reed exited the vehicle, re-entered it, and drove across the parking lot before stopping again. Reed exited the vehicle a second time and began walking away. The officer deployed a Taser, which was not effective. Reed then pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired at the officer, striking him in the chest. The officer, who was wearing a ballistic vest, opened fire, striking Reed multiple times. Reed was transported to a hospital where he died.
