On 04/24/2026, deputies with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Trailblazer in Savannah. The driver did not stop. Police chased the vehicle west on Capital Street. During the pursuit, the driver ran a red light at Pennsylvania Avenue and struck a Nissan Juke. The impact ejected both occupants of the Nissan. Habibullah Azizi, who was driving for Lyft, and his passenger were killed. Authorities took the driver and two passengers from the Trailblazer into custody, and charges were filed.
