A New Mexico State Police officer attempted a traffic stop on a gray 2004 Dodge pickup truck on Manzano Road around 8:30 p.m. Police said the truck did not immediately stop and continued driving before stopping at 4 Sierra Vista Drive in the Meadow Lake area of Los Lunas. Jesus Munoz Duran, 53, exited the truck and stood beside the driver’s side door while the officer ordered him to show his hands. Police said Duran displayed a handgun and opened fire on the officer. The officer opened fire, striking and killing Duran. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is conducting the investigation.
