OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/24/2026, Ogle County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle after identifying occupants they said were wanted in connection with multiple burglaries and outstanding warrants. Police chased the vehicle from Oregon toward Rochelle on Illinois Route 38. Deputies deployed tire deflation devices multiple times while the driver continued driving through fields and across a waterway to avoid them. Police said the vehicle entered a ditch west of Rochelle and overturned multiple times, ejecting 25-year-old Cheyenne M. Gartman of Dixon. Gartman was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Two passengers, a 34-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, were airlifted to a hospital with injuries. Multiple agencies participated in the pursuit and response.
