On 04/25/2026, a Kent Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle in downtown Kent, Washington. The driver, later identified as 56-year-old Maceo Fitzgerald Brown of Seattle, continued driving. Police pursued him northbound on Washington Avenue. At the intersection of West Valley Highway and South 228th Street, Brown lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. Responding officers forced open the vehicle's doors, removed Brown, deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED), and performed CPR until King County medics arrived. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Medical Examiner determined he died from multiple blunt force injuries. The Washington State Patrol investigated the crash because it involved a Kent police pursuit.
