Oakland police responded around 3:50 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a man pointing a gun at residents and passing vehicles near the 1800 block of 89th Avenue and Birch Street. Officers confronted the man after arriving in the neighborhood. Police said the man pointed a gun toward officers during the confrontation. Several officers opened fire, striking and killing him.
