On 04/27/2026, a Naperville police officer located a Honda connected to a missing person investigation involving a person reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis near Route 59 and North Aurora Road. Police said Joseph Moreno displayed a gun and drove away. Warrenville police officers located the vehicle and chased Moreno westbound on Interstate 88 as police claimed he continued displaying the gun. Illinois State Police joined the pursuit. Police deployed spike strips near Keslinger Road in DeKalb County, stopping the Honda on the interstate. Police said Moreno and a Warrenville police officer exchanged gunfire. Officers opened fire, striking Moreno. Police transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting and pursuit.
