On 04/27/2026, officers with the Bogalusa Police Department attempted to stop a 2004 Nissan 350Z for a traffic violation in Bogalusa. Police said the driver did not stop and officers escalated a chase. During the pursuit, the vehicle left the roadway near West 9th Street and Avenue G and crashed into a utility pole. Destiny M. Matran, 16, of Bogalusa, was riding in the passenger seat and died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. The driver suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. Louisiana State Police said the investigation findings will be forwarded to the district attorney for consultation regarding possible charges.
