OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/28/2026, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper stopped to assist the driver of a westbound GMC Sierra after the truck suffered a tire failure and slid to a stop near mile marker 310 on Interstate 80. During the interaction, the trooper began a suspected impaired driving investigation and asked the driver to exit the vehicle. Police said the man ran back to the truck and drove away westbound on I-80. Troopers escalated a pursuit and attempted a tactical vehicle intervention, but the maneuver was unsuccessful and the driver continued fleeing. The truck exited Interstate 80 near mile marker 305 and traveled north toward Alda before losing control and crashing. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. The South Central Area Law Enforcement Services group is investigating the crash with assistance from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Grand Island Police Department.
