On 04/29/2026, Columbus police officers attempted a traffic stop near East 16th Avenue and Hamilton Avenue in the South Linden neighborhood. Police said the vehicle stopped briefly before Chantez Loury got out and ran. Officers located him nearby. Police stated Loury fired a handgun during the encounter, striking an officer in the hand. Officers returned fire and killed him. The injured officer was transported to a hospital and later released. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
