OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/29/2026, Richfield police responded at approximately 3:24 a.m. to reports of a car prowler in the 7500 block of Morgan Avenue South. Officers located a man in the area and police said he ran from officers, leading to a foot chase. During the pursuit, police said the man displayed a firearm and exchanged gunfire with officers. Multiple officers opened fire, killing him.

A Richfield police officer was shot in the hand during the exchange and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police established a large perimeter near an apartment complex north of Best Buy’s corporate headquarters while investigators processed the area. Westbound 76th Street was temporarily closed during the investigation.

Authorities had not publicly released the man’s identity as of 04/30/2026. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting
