On 04/29/2026, Gadsden police conducted a Street Crimes and Narcotics Unit investigation that escalated into a vehicle chase through the Alabama City area. Police deployed spike strips and pursued the vehicle to the Noccalula Falls Campground after the driver reportedly drove around a gate into the campground area. Two men exited the vehicle and ran from police. Officers took the driver into custody after a struggle. Corey Perez Green ran toward the gorge area, jumped over a fence, and fell approximately 60 feet into the gorge below. Officers and Gadsden Fire Department personnel performed life-saving measures, but Green died from his injuries. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
