On 05/01/2026, Virginia police officers responded to the 300 block of 2nd Avenue South after reports of a man wearing a ski mask and waving what appeared to be a handgun. Police said officers found the man walking on the sidewalk holding what appeared to be a handgun. Police stated the man did not comply with commands to drop the weapon and pointed it toward officers. An officer opened fire, striking him. Officers transported the man to a hospital, where he died. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting. The officer involved was placed on critical incident leave. Police said body cameras were activated during the encounter.
