On 05/01/2026, West Virginia State Police troopers and Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Green Frog Bar on WV Route 45 East in Martinsburg after reports that a man threatened to “shoot up” the bar. Police said the man left the bar and entered a vehicle in the parking lot. Deputies and troopers arrived at approximately the same time and confronted him inside the vehicle. Police stated the man refused commands and had a handgun. Officers opened fire and killed him. Medical personnel responded but he was pronounced dead. Four West Virginia State Police troopers were placed on administrative leave following the shooting while the investigation continues.
