OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/01/2026, Johnson County deputies responded around 2 a.m. to reports of a shooting near Missouri Highway 131 and U.S. Highway 50. Deputies found a 17 year old girl inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Police later located two men in the area and said one matched the description of the shooter. Police chased the 19 year old after he ran from officers. A Lafayette County deputy and an Odessa police officer pursued him. About one minute after officers made contact with him, the deputy opened fire and struck him. Police transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the shooting. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office continues investigating the shooting that injured the teenage girl.
