On 05/04/2026, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a wrong-way driver near Old Highway 99 and 183rd Avenue Southwest in Thurston County. Police said the driver refused to stop and continued driving recklessly. During the chase, the driver crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Warren Wessling. Wessling was killed in the collision. Police said the fleeing driver also died following the crash. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.
