On 05/02/2026, Lawton Police Department officers responded around 10:34 a.m. to the 500 block of Monroe Avenue regarding an assault investigation. Police contacted Anthony Montalvo, 33, who made verbal threats toward officers. Police attempted to negotiate with Montalvo for several hours. Around 8 p.m., Montalvo exited the residence holding two firearms. Police continued negotiations and ordered him to drop the weapons. When he did not comply, officers opened fire, striking him. Officers transported Montalvo to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
