OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/03/2026, Cobb County Police Department officers responded around 8:30 a.m. to a welfare check at a residence on Vandiver Drive near Rainwater Drive in northeast Cobb County. Police attempted to contact a man inside the home but were unsuccessful. Officers later obtained a search warrant and reported hearing a gunshot from inside the residence shortly after 11 a.m. Cobb County SWAT officers deployed a drone and observed a man holding a firearm inside the home. Crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with him for several hours. During the standoff, police said the man opened fire on officers and officers returned fire, wounding him. Police stated communication continued until the man later died by suicide inside the residence. Officers entering the home found two deceased individuals inside. Police have not publicly identified either person or disclosed how the second person died. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting and Cobb police are conducting the death investigation.
