On 05/04/2026, Jacksonville sheriff’s officers responded to a reported burglary near Rigel Road and 204 Century 21 Drive. Police said a man kicked in the doors of four occupied homes, including one where children were present. Authorities said surveillance video showed the man approaching officers in a driveway while holding a handgun and pointing it at them. Four officers opened fire and killed him. Police said the man was in his 30s and had prior arrests in Florida and Texas. His identity had not been publicly released. The State Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting.
