OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/05/2026, Amesbury police attempted to stop a Toyota SUV for speeding on Hillside Avenue. Police said the driver initially pulled over but drove away before officers could make contact. Police chased the vehicle for about three miles over approximately two minutes before it crashed at the intersection of Elm Street and Route 110. Authorities identified the person killed as 24 year old Carlos Nunez of Lawrence. Police said Nunez was riding in the back seat and was ejected from the SUV during the crash before being struck by another vehicle. He died from his injuries at the scene. Police identified the driver as Yenciel Soto, 18, of Lawrence. Three surviving occupants were charged following the crash. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police are investigating.
