Edinburg police responded to the 2500 block of West Sprague Street after an elderly homeowner called authorities because he was upset about irrigation workers conducting maintenance near his property. Police said Steven Orth demanded that the workers leave and continued arguing with responding officers. Authorities said Orth told officers he would retrieve a firearm if the workers did not leave. Police stated officers then saw that Orth already had a pistol in his waistband. According to police, Orth removed the firearm and pointed it toward officers. Officers opened fire and killed him. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
