On 05/07/2026, Greensboro police responded to reports of an armed robbery at the Walgreens at 901 East Bessemer Avenue. Police said Peter Washington left the business in a black SUV. An officer pulled behind the SUV and attempted a traffic stop. Police said Washington accelerated and continued driving away. The officer deactivated emergency lights and did not continue an active pursuit, but continued driving in the same direction. Minutes later, the officer found the SUV crashed on a two lane bridge over U.S. 29. Washington had been ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. Police later stated Washington had allegedly robbed the Walgreens before the crash.
