On 05/08/2026, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department attempted to stop a pickup truck after police said the driver was intoxicated. Police said the driver did not stop and officers chased the vehicle on the city’s east side. During the pursuit, the truck reportedly reached speeds near 100 mph and crossed into oncoming traffic before crashing near East Washington Street and North Edmondson Avenue. Lesley Yarrell III, who was a passenger in the truck, died from his injuries. The driver was hospitalized in critical condition. Family members said Yarrell had recently become a father and was remembered as a caring and supportive person.
