OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

Boone County deputies responded to a shooting northeast of Columbia near the 5100 block of North Douglas Drive. Authorities said Steven A. Swanson shot and killed a 35 year old man and critically injured a 65 year old woman before fleeing in a Ford Bronco. Police escalated a chase involving Boone County deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers along U.S. Highway 63. During the pursuit, authorities said Swanson fired at a trooper and struck a patrol vehicle. Troopers used a PIT maneuver and Swanson’s vehicle entered a ditch near Highway Z. Authorities said Swanson then died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. KOMU later reported Swanson had recently been released from the Missouri Department of Corrections after serving time in a shock incarceration program. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
