OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY : On 05/11/2026, Illinois State Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a mobile home park in Princeton. Police said Anthony Daniel Rodriguez, 42, barricaded himself inside a room while holding several people hostage, including children, and was allegedly armed with a knife. After negotiations failed, officers reported hearing screaming from inside and forced entry into the home. Police opened fire after entering. Rodriguez and a 3 year old boy were struck by gunfire. The child was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Rodriguez survived and was hospitalized with gunshot wounds. The child’s mother, Aurora Almanza, said she witnessed her son being shot and described him as polite, affectionate, and always greeting people. She said Rodriguez had been around her children for years and she never believed he was capable of harming them.
