OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 05/10/2026, Detroit police attempted to stop a man driving on the west side of Detroit. Police escalated a chase after the driver refused to stop. Officers said the vehicle crashed near Joy Road and the Southfield Freeway. The man then ran from the vehicle and police chased him on foot. During the pursuit, the man died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Detroit police are investigating the incident.
