OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/07/2026, Boone County deputies responded to the 5100 block of North Douglas Drive after reports of a shooting involving Steven A. Swanson. Police said Swanson shot and killed a 35 year old man and seriously injured a 65 year old woman, both relatives. Swanson then left the area in a blue Ford Bronco and police escalated a vehicle chase into Randolph County. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and Boone County deputies deployed tire deflation devices and performed a PIT maneuver on Highway 63 near Clark, causing the Bronco to enter a ditch. Police said Swanson fired multiple rounds, striking a state patrol vehicle during the chase. Officers did not return fire. After the vehicle stopped, officers used a drone to survey the area and found Swanson dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound inside the vehicle. Authorities later said Swanson had recently been released from a 120 day shock incarceration program and placed on probation following a domestic assault case.
