On 05/11/2026, Greenville Police Department officers responded to Gravel Hill Road in Greenville, Alabama, shortly after 9 p.m. During the encounter, officers found 33-year-old Gray McNeil Vinson holding a handgun.
According to Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, officers ordered Vinson to drop the gun. Police said Vinson instead raised the handgun toward officers. Officers opened fire, striking and killing him.
The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. No officers were reported injured.
