On 05/11/2026, Mundelein police responded to the 1100 block of Ashbrook Drive for a welfare check involving Mary Alice Love. Police said officers encountered Love outside the residence holding two large knives. Officers gave commands for her to drop the knives during the confrontation. Police opened fire, killing Love. She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force and Illinois State Police were assigned to investigate the shooting.
