OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

04/14/2026, detectives with the Denton Police Department were attempting to serve a search warrant connected to an ongoing investigation. Police said detectives conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of Londonderry Lane.

According to Denton police, as detectives approached the vehicle, the driver shot himself. Officers rendered aid until Denton Fire Rescue personnel arrived. The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Denton Police Department stated no officers fired their weapons during the incident. The Texas Rangers were requested to conduct an independent investigation. Denton police did not publicly release the man’s identity in the initial announcement.
