On 04/06/2026, officers with the Portland Police Bureau attempted to stop a vehicle driving the wrong way in downtown Portland. Police said the vehicle did not stop and officers escalated a pursuit through the city.

Investigators said the vehicle crashed through a barrier near Southwest Moody Avenue and entered the Willamette River. Emergency crews responded with dive teams and marine rescue personnel. Trent Badillo, 17, of Beavercreek, was recovered from the river and pronounced dead.

Police stated a fourth occupant survived after being rescued from the water. Portland police later confirmed three people died in the crash. The investigation remained ongoing.
