On 05/13/2026, agents with the Memphis Safe Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration located Darrin Pigram at a Burger King on North Hollywood Street near James Road in the Frayser area of Memphis while attempting to serve an arrest warrant. Authorities said Pigram was wanted on charges including aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and employing a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to investigators, agents approached Pigram at the restaurant and a confrontation followed. Police claimed Pigram reached toward his waistband and produced a firearm. An agent then opened fire, striking Pigram. Authorities transported him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation into the shooting at the request of the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office. Local residents and community members questioned why agents attempted to arrest Pigram at a busy restaurant during daytime hours. A pastor who knew Pigram described him as a caring person who had recently begun attending church services.
