OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/14/2026, deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office attempted to locate Derek R. Arnett in connection with the disappearance of 61 year old Frank Torres of Pauma Valley. Investigators said Torres had been reported missing and his abandoned vehicle was later found near a park in Temecula under suspicious circumstances. Detectives identified Arnett as a person of interest and began searching for him.

Deputies located Arnett driving near Wolf Valley Road and Wolf Valley Creek Drive and followed him into a parking lot near Pechanga Parkway and Great Oak Drive near the Pechanga Resort Casino. Sheriff’s officials deployed the Emergency Services Team and surrounded the vehicle during a prolonged standoff. Authorities said deputies later approached the vehicle and found Arnett with a self inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies and paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but Arnett was pronounced dead.

Authorities stated the investigation remained active and that Frank Torres had still not been located at the time of reporting. Nearby schools were temporarily placed on lockdown during the standoff.
