On 05/13/2026, officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the 1700 block of West 37th Drive in the Exposition Park area after reports of a stabbing. Police said a 58-year-old man was stabbed and transported to a hospital. Investigators identified Jerardo A. Perez Lopez as the presumed attacker.
According to police, Perez Lopez barricaded himself inside a residence for several hours while LAPD officers surrounded the home and attempted negotiations. After approximately four hours, officers entered the residence and found Perez Lopez dead inside. Authorities did not immediately release the cause or manner of death. Reporting indicated the injured man and Perez Lopez were father and son. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later publicly identified the deceased as Jerardo A. Perez Lopez, 31.
