On 05/07/2026, agents with the Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search warrant at a residence on Long Leaf Drive in Bauxite as part of an undercover child exploitation investigation. Authorities said agents entered the residence at approximately 7 a.m. while executing the warrant.

According to Arkansas State Police, agents heard a single gunshot after entering the home. An Arkansas State Police SWAT team then cleared the residence and found James Fields dead inside the home from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities transported his body to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination.

rkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division opened an investigation into the death. Officials stated the search warrant was connected to an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.
