On 05/14/2026, Michigan State Police attempted to stop a vehicle connected to a fleeing and eluding investigation in Oakland County. Police said the 60 year old Madison Heights man drove away, and troopers chased him through multiple communities before he crashed into a tree near Trillium Lane and Williams Lake Road in Waterford Township. Police said the vehicle came to rest in a marshy area. As officers approached the vehicle, police said the man refused commands to show his hands and pointed a handgun at officers. Troopers and Waterford Township officers opened fire, killing him. No officers were injured. The Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting.
