OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/15/2026, agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation attempted to arrest Timothy Alan Hoilman at the Grassy Branch Barber Shop on NC 226 in Spruce Pine in connection with a child sex abuse investigation. Police said Hoilman fired a gun as agents moved in to arrest him. One bullet struck an SBI agent in the protective vest. During the confrontation, Hoilman shot himself. He was transported from the location and later died from the self inflicted gunshot wound. The injured SBI agent was treated for non life threatening injuries. Authorities said the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
