OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/17/2026 at approximately 2:40 a.m., a Virginia State Police trooper observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 264 in Norfolk. The trooper attempted a traffic stop after recording the motorcycle traveling at speeds that ultimately exceeded 140 mph. The rider, later identified as Christian Robert Marcus Snyder, continued riding away while the trooper pursued.
During the pursuit, Snyder accelerated to more than 140 mph, changed lanes repeatedly, and ran multiple red lights after exiting the interstate. As the pursuit continued through Norfolk, Snyder lost control of the motorcycle near the Brambleton Avenue exit. The motorcycle struck a concrete barrier, ejecting Snyder. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Troopers immediately stopped and rendered emergency medical aid until Norfolk Fire-Rescue personnel arrived. Snyder was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Virginia State Police's Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the pursuit and collision. The investigation documented the motorcycle's speed, the route of the pursuit, and the circumstances leading to the fatal crash. Public records later identified the deceased rider as Christian Robert Marcus Snyder, age 20.
