On 04/28/2026, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop Todd Bass for speeding near Olympia. Police chased Bass after he did not stop. During the pursuit, a deputy used a PIT maneuver, causing both vehicles to crash. Police said Bass ran from the crash site on foot. Deputies later found him behind a shed in the 3200 block of Hoffman Road SE. Police stated there was an exchange of gunfire before deputies opened fire and killed Bass. Another person was reportedly taken into custody following the incident. The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is investigating the shooting.
