OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/19/2026, Anchorage police responded to reports of gunfire near Bragaw Street and Reka Drive in east Anchorage shortly after midnight. Officers arrived and located Emil McCord, 33, sitting near the roadway while holding a handgun. According to police, officers gave commands for McCord to drop the weapon. Police said McCord moved into the roadway and raised the handgun during the encounter. Three Anchorage police officers opened fire, striking and killing him. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case later stated the shooting marked the department’s fourth officer involved shooting of the year. The Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions is reviewing the shooting.
