On 05/13/2026, Indiana State Police responded to conduct a welfare check on Erik M. Kendrick in Decatur. Police later attempted to stop Kendrick’s vehicle, and officers escalated a pursuit along U.S. 30 into Allen County. During the pursuit, Kendrick crashed his vehicle. Police found him with a gunshot wound to the head inside the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital, where he died. On 05/20/2026, the Allen County Coroner’s Office ruled Kendrick’s death a suicide.
