On 05/21/2026, Cleveland police responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot near 1435 to 1451 East Boulevard in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood. Officers found Akili Hammond, 26, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead. Police stated an off duty Cleveland police officer was present during an altercation involving multiple people when gunfire erupted. Authorities said the off duty officer fired shots during the incident. Cleveland police recovered a firearm that investigators said they believed belonged to Hammond. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruled Hammond’s death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
